Overview

Replit started life as a browser-based code editor. These days it pitches itself as an app and website builder: you describe what you want in plain language, and its Agent writes the code, sets up the backend and publishes the result, all without leaving the browser.
The interesting part is how much infrastructure comes bundled. Authentication, a database, hosting and monitoring are built in with no setup, and Replit lists more than 100 integrations, including OpenAI, Stripe and Google Workspace. There's also a visual Design space where you can tweak the look of an app and push those changes into the code. Replit says its Intelligent Model Routing picks a model per task and costs about 65% less on average than its earlier Max Mode.
Who it's for
Founders sketching an MVP, product managers who want a clickable prototype instead of a spec, and internal-tools builders get the most out of it. Experienced engineers can still open the code and edit it directly, but if you mainly want AI help inside an existing local codebase, an editor like Cursor is a closer fit.
Pricing (checked October 2026)
Your first prompt is free and doesn't use credits, and there's a Free Mode for chatting and building at no cost. Paid plans from the official pricing page:
- Core: $20/month, or $18/month billed annually. Up to 30 hours of chat and 60 projects on Free Mode, $20 of usage on more powerful models, Plan mode and unlimited workspaces.
- Pro: $100/month, or $90/month billed annually. Adds 10 parallel agents, more Free Mode usage, $100 toward the most powerful models, up to 15 collaborators and 50 viewers, database rollback up to 28 days and premium support. Higher credit tiers go up to $2,000/month.
- Enterprise: custom pricing, with SSO, SCIM, audit logs and single-tenant networking options.
Prices may have tax added depending on where you are.
Pros
- Hosting, database and auth are already wired up, which is where most beginners get stuck.
- Pro adds 10 parallel agents and room for 15 collaborators, so a small team can build together.
- You can start for free with no credit card.
Cons
- Usage-based credits make monthly costs harder to predict on bigger projects.
- Replit itself warns that the Agent is probabilistic and can make mistakes, so generated apps still need review before real users touch them.
- Apps are built around Replit's own hosting and database, so plan ahead if you might want to self-host later.
Alternatives
Lovable and v0 by Vercel also build full apps from prompts. For no-code internal tools, Glide is another option.
