Overview

AVbeam is downloadable audio comparison software. It compares multiple source audio files against multiple target files and reports every segment where the audio matches. Instead of relying on file names or metadata, it uses audio fingerprinting, so it can recognize the same sound even when files are in different formats or have been altered. Version 1.2.0 added drag and drop for files.
How it works
You select a set of source files and a set of target files, then run the comparison. AVbeam analyzes the audio content and lists the matching segments, including where in each file they occur. Matches do not need to cover the whole file: the software can find partial matches that start at different time offsets, such as a clip of a song that appears in the middle of a longer recording.
Robust matching
The comparison algorithm is designed to tolerate significant noise and distortion. According to the developer, it remains reliable when audio has been frequency filtered, amplified, damped or otherwise processed. That makes it useful for real-world recordings that were captured, compressed or edited after the original was made.
Key features
- Many-to-many comparison of source and target files.
- Partial segment matching at any time offset.
- Resistance to noise, filtering, amplification and damping.
- Fingerprint-based matching across different audio formats.
- Reports listing all matching segments.
- Drag-and-drop file selection.
Use cases
Audio and video archivists can find duplicates in large libraries even when the copies are in different formats. Editors can locate where a particular clip, jingle or piece of music appears across many recordings. Broadcasters and content owners can check whether material from one file was reused in another. Podcast producers can identify repeated segments such as intros and ads across episodes.
Pricing
AVbeam is distributed as a download from the official website. Licensing details and any trial options are provided there, so check the site for the current terms.
Limitations
AVbeam is a focused desktop utility rather than a cloud service or a music recognition database. It compares the files you give it; it does not identify unknown songs against a global catalogue. Large libraries will take time to process depending on your computer.
Who it is for
AVbeam is for archivists, audio engineers, editors, researchers and media companies who need to find matching or duplicated audio across many files reliably.
