Descript Review (2026)

What it is

Descript is a video and audio editor built around a simple idea: edit media by editing its transcript. You record or upload a video or podcast, Descript transcribes it, and deleting words from the text removes them from the recording. On top of that, it offers AI tools for cleaning up audio, removing filler words, creating clips, generating voices and avatars, and an AI co-editor called Underlord that can carry out editing tasks from instructions.

Key features

According to Descript's official pricing page (October 2026):

  • Text-based editing of video and audio.
  • Underlord: an AI video co-editor that can draft edits, answer questions and generate images from descriptions.
  • AI tools: Studio Sound (audio enhancement), Remove Filler Words, Create Clips, Eye Contact and Green Screen background removal.
  • AI Speech: custom voice clones and stock AI voices, with the ability to regenerate words in a recording.
  • AI avatars: 35+ stock avatars, plus custom avatars from a photo or text prompt on higher plans.
  • Dubbing into 30 languages on Business.
  • Transcription in 25 languages and captions in 61 languages.
  • Rooms: remote recording sessions that import automatically into Descript.
  • Publishing helpers: draft social posts, show notes and summaries.

A note on languages

Descript's published transcription list covers 25 languages, mostly European plus Hindi, Malay and Turkish, and its caption list covers 61. Arabic does not appear in either list on the pricing page as of October 2026, which matters for creators producing Arabic content. Check the official site, as language support changes.

Which plan fits?

Estimate how many hours of raw footage you upload or record each month, because media hours count everything, including takes you never publish. A weekly one-hour podcast with some retakes fits Hobbyist's 10 hours. A creator publishing several long videos a week, or a small team, will usually need Creator. Business mainly adds brand controls, dubbing and avatars for organisations; Enterprise adds SOC 2 Type II documentation, SSO/SCIM, audit logs and AI training opt-out.
